Abstract Chronic sinusitis is one of the most common inflammatory diseases of the nose, and it has a complicated pathogenesis, which is mostly related to the destruction of the nasal mucosa structure and ciliary dyskinesia. At present, many diagnostic methods, such as sinus imaging, sinus puncture, irrigation, are one-sided due to their complex and invasive operation, and high price. The nasal nitric oxide (nNO) measurement is a non-invasive, safe, simple, and reproducible auxiliary detection method. This method provides patients with direct detection of inflammation in the upper respiratory tract, and has important reference significance for the diagnosis of chronic sinusitis. At present, the research on differences in nNO levels in patients with different chronic sinusitis is still controversial. This article reviews the overview of nNO and its relationship with the severity of chronic sinusitis as well as its application in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic sinusitis in adults and children.
