Abstract  Objective To explore the research situation of animal model of femoral head necrosis, and to summarize the research hotspots. Methods “femoral head necrosis” and “experimental animal models” were used as the subject words in the CNKI database, the search period was from January 1992 to December 2020, visual analysis of literatures was carried out with CiteSpace, which were analyzed from the number of published articles by years, author cooperation network, number of published articles by authors, institutional cooperation network, and keyword co-occurrence network. Results 790 related literatures were finally included, the number of annual published articles in 2009 was the most (69 articles); in terms of the author cooperation network and the number of published articles by authors, three cooperative teams had been formed, with Tong Peijian, Fan Meng, and Wang Kunzheng as the cores, respectively, among them, Tong Peijian’s team had published the most articles (19 articles); institutional cooperation network had mainly concentrated in Chengdu, Shanghai, and Tianjin, the cooperation relationship was in the same region; keyword co-occurrence network showed that steroid-induced femoral head necrosis was the current research hotspot. Conclusion Research on animal models of femoral head necrosis has gradually matured, research hotspots tend to be steroid-induced femoral head necrosis, but the cooperation among research institutions in different regions should be strengthened.
