Effect of exercise intervention based on behavior change theory in elderly diabetic patients#br# |

Abstract Objective To investigate the effect of exercise based on behavioral change theory on frailty in elderly patients with diabetes. Methods A total of 120 elderly diabetic patients who were admitted to the Department of Endocrinology, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2018 to December 2019 were selected and divided into experimental group and traditional group according to the random number table method, with 60 cases in each group. The experimental group received exercise instruction that matched the stage of behavioral change, and a return visit was conducted by telephone; the traditional group was received regular exercise education. Fasting blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, Chinese version of Tilburg frailty scale, and other indicators were used to evaluate the intervention effect. Results After the intervention, there were no significant differences in fasting plasma glucose, 2 h postprandial blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and total cholesterol in the traditional group compared with those before the intervention (P > 0.05); the above indicators in the experimental group were lower than those before the intervention, while the experimental group was lower than the traditional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the total score of frailty, physical frailty, mental frailty, and social frailty in the two groups were lower than those before the intervention, while the experimental group was lower than the traditional group, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion Exercise intervention based on behavioral change theory can significantly improve the control level of blood glucose and blood lipids in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and improve the debilitating status of patients, which is worthy of clinical application.
