Mediating effect of breastfeeding self-efficacy between social support and postpartum depression in maternal#br# |

Abstract Objective To explore the mediating effect of breastfeeding self-efficacy between maternal social support and postpartum depression in maternal. Methods From June 2019 to April 2020, 2606 cases of puerpera in the Shanghai First Maternal and Infant Health Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine were selected as the study subjects by convenience sampling method. General data questionnaire, Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Breastfeeding self-efficacy scale (BSES), and edinburgh postpartum depression Scale (EPDS) were used. SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 21.0 were used for statistical analysis. Correlation analysis was used to understand the relationship between social support, breastfeeding self-efficacy and postpartum depression, and structural equation model was constructed to verify the mediating effect of breastfeeding self-efficacy. Results A total of 2606 questionnaires were distributed in this study, with 2552 valid questionnaires returned, the effective recoveing was 97.93%. The score of social support was (28.05±5.30) points, the score of breastfeeding self-efficacy was (110.80±22.88) points, and the score of postpartum depression was 7.00(3.00,12.00)points, correlation analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between social support and breastfeeding self-efficacy (r = 0.276, P < 0.01), there was a negative correlation between self-efficacy of breastfeeding and postpartum depression (r = -0.281, P < 0.01), and there was a negative correlation between self-efficacy of breastfeeding and postpartum depression (r = -0.379, P < 0.01), the percentage of intermediary effect in total effect was 32.36%. Conclusion Breast-feeding self-efficacy is partly mediating between social support and postpartum depression in maternal.
