Abstract  Objective To investigate the clinical effect of Pie-crusting technique in treatment of varus deformity of knee osteoarthritis in total knee replacement. Methods A total of 82 patients with knee osteoarthritis varus deformity treated in Lianyungang Hospital Affiliated to Xuzhou Medical University of Jiangsu Province from January 2018 to January 2021 were randomly divided into study group and control group according to random number table method, with 41 patients in each group. Patients in both groups received total knee replacement, and patients in the study group were treated with Pie-crusting technology to correct varus deformity. Operation time, intraoperative blood loss and hospital stay were compared between the two groups. The knee varus angle, knee motion, hospital for special surgery knee score (HSS score) and World Health Organization quality of life scale-brief form questionnaire (WHOQOL-100 score) were compared between the two groups before and six months after surgery and the incidence of complications six months after operation was compared between the two groups. Results There were no significant differences in operative time, intraoperative blood loss and hospital stay between two groups (P > 0.05). Six months after surgery, the varus angle of the knee joint in the two groups was lower than that before surgery, but there was no statistical significance in the varus angle of the knee joint between the two groups (P > 0.05). The knee motion of the two groups was higher than that before surgery, and the study group was higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Six months after surgery, HSS and WHOQOL-100 scores of the two groups were higher than those before surgery, and the study group was higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Six months after surgery, there was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Pie-crusting technology for the treatment of varus deformity in knee arthritis patients during total knee replacement can effectively correct varus deformity, improve knee motion and function, and improve the quality of life, and is safe and reliable.
