| Clinical characteristics of one case of taurodontism and its family and literature review#br# |

Abstract Taurodontism is a rare morphological anomaly of teeth, which is characterized by an enlarged body and pulp chamber, as well as apical displacement of the pulpal floor and shortened roots. It occurs alone or accompanies with other abnormal tooth development, or as a symptom of the syndrome. Taurodontism frequently occur in sporadic cases, and it is rare reported in families. In this paper, reported a family with taurodontism. The proband was a 15-year-old male, and his parents were consanguineous marriage. In November 2020, the patient and his parents visited the Stomatological Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University with “chief complaint of recurrent pain in the left maxillary posterior teeth for half a year”. With X ray and cone-beam computed tomography examination, the proband and his mother were diagnosed with multiple taurodontism with pulp stones. Besides, the genetic examination failed to identify taurodontism-related mutations. Base on this reported case, the article reviews the etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and genetic characteristics of taurodontism, aiming to improve clinicians’ understanding of taurodontism.
