Abstract Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common gastrointestinal tumors in clinic. Early screening and diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma is of great significance for reducing its morbidity and mortality. Imaging technology is the major method for early screening and diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma, which has been developing and improving in recent years. Advanced imaging techniques have improved the detection rate and coincidence rate of early screening and diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma. This paper introduces the pathogenesis of colorectal carcinoma, and summarizes the application of imaging techniques in the screening and diagnosis of early colorectal carcinoma, such as aer-barium double contrast radiography screening, electronic colonoscopy screening, multi-slice spiral CT scanning, magnetic resonance imaging, and identifies the advantages and disadvantages of different imaging techniques. Imaging technology should be comprehensively used according to the actual situation of the examination objects to improve the detection rate and accuracy in clinical practice, which is important to guide the treatment and prognosis of patients.
