Abstract Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of self-management intervention in elderly patients with urinary incontinence. Methods A computer search of Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, Wanfang, CNKI, VIP and China Biomedical Literature Database were conducted to collect randomized controlled trials on the application of self-management intervention in elderly patients with urinary incontinence from the establishment of the database to December 2020. The relevant indexes included in the literature were analyzed by meta with RevMan 5.3 software. Results A total of 697 patients were included in 10 literatures. The results of meta analysis showed that the incidence of urinary incontinence in the intervention group was lower than that in the control group (MD = -4.53, 95%CI: -5.63, -3.43, P < 0.000 01), and the quality of life (MD = 12.14, 95%CI: 2.60, 21.68, P = 0.01), self-efficacy (MD = 20.14, 95%CI: 0.39, 39.89, P = 0.05) and knowledge level of urinary incontinence (MD = 7.2, 95%CI: 1.38, 13.01, P = 0.02) were higher than those in the control group. Conclusion Self-management intervention can reduce the incidence of elderly patients with urinary incontinence, improve the quality of life and improve self-efficacy, but limited by the number and quality of studies, large samples and high-quality studies are still needed toverify its long-term effect.
