Abstract Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) is a polypeptide growth factor with various biological activities, which is generally highly expressed in tumors. HGF exerts its effects in promoting tumor cell proliferation, inducing tumor cell invasion and metastasis by affecting apoptosis, regulating adhesion between cells, and promoting vascularization and lymphangiogenesis through the HGF/c-Met signaling pathway. In depth analysis of the status and role of HGF in tumor regulatory networks in different systems to uncover its molecular mechanism in tumorigenesis and development will provide new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
