Clinical effect of shock wave therapy in meniscal injuries healing after arthroscopic surgery |

Abstract Objective To investigate the clinical effect of shock wave treatment after meniscus repair under arthroscopy. Methods From October 2015 to December 2016, in Department of Orthopedics, Shanghai Eastern Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital, 80 patients with meniscus laceration in the red and white junction area of medial posterior horn of knee joint were analyzed retrospectively, according to different treatment, they were divided into experiment group and control group, with 40 cases in each group. The experiment group was given knee arthroscopic meniscus repair, after the operation 2 weeks, the shock wave treatment was conducted at the affected area until after operation for 6 weeks; the control group was given simple knee arthroscopic meniscus repair. According to Lysholm and Hospital for Spcial Surgery (HSS) scores and imaging data were used to evaluate, the meniscus healing and knee function recovery situation in the two groups before and after operation for 6 weeks were compared. Results After operation for 6 weeks, the Lysholm and HSS scores in the two groups were higher than those before surgery, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05); moreover, the Lysholm and HSS scores in experiment group were higher than those in control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05); the excellent and good rates of Lysholm and HSS scores in the experiment group were all higher than those of control group (P < 0.05). MRI showed that the hyperintense of injured meniscus in experiment group after operation for 6 weeks was significantly lower than that of the control group. Conclusion Shock wave treatment after knee arthroscopic meniscus repair has high safety and less side effects, to some extent, it can promote the repair of meniscus injury and improve joint function.
