Correlation study of cystatin C and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver |

Abstract Objective To investigate the association between cystatin C and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods According to the results of ultrasonography detection of liver, 65 cases with T2DM in Central People′s Hospital of Zhanjiang from October 2013 to October 2015 were divided into two groups, including 29 cases of T2DM patients with NAFLD (T2DM+NAFLD group) and 36 cases of only T2DM (T2DM group). The levels of cystatin C and insulin resistance and correlation in both groups were analyzed. Results The levels of cystatin C and insulin resistance in T2DM+NAFLD group were higher than those in T2DM group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The correlation coefficient of cystatin C and insulin resistance in T2DM+NAFLD group was 0.79, while the correlation coefficient between cystatin C and insulin resistance in T2DM group was 0.43(P < 0.05). Conclusion Cystatin C and insulin resistance in T2DM with NAFLD group is positively correlated, and more prone to insulin resistance.
