Abstract Lonicerae Japonicae Flos is commonly used in clinical medicine, with the function of clearing away heat and toxic materials and antiviral, which is widely used in the treatment of various clinical diseases. Luteoloside and chlorogenic acid were added to the 2005 edition of Chinese Pharmacopoeia as the indicators of the quality control of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos. In this paper, six extraction methods such as solvent extraction, ultrasonic extraction, flash extraction, ultra-high pressure extraction, supercritical fluid extraction and ultrasonic-assisted extraction were summarized, and macroporous resin column chromatography purification method, the molecular imprinting technology purification method and polyamide column chromatography method were used to separate luteoloside from Lonicerae Japonicae Flos by reviewing the related literatures in recent years, and it made a summary of the protective effect of respiratory system, the cardiovascular system, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-tumor, anti-aging skin and anti-ischemic biological activities of luteoloside in Lonicerae Japonicae Flos in order to provide reference for further development and utilization of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos.
