| Qualitative study of caregiver burden experience in care of patients with advanced cancer |

Abstract Objective To study the caregiver burden experience of primary caregivers of advanced cancer patients in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, so as to provide reference for improving the quality of life of patients and caregivers. Methods A semi-structured interview was conducted among caregivers of 9 patients with advanced cancer from January to April 2017 in Tumor Hospital Affiliated to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region by means of qualitative interviews. Results The interview data were analyzed and summarized by Colaizzi analysis, and 3 themes were obtained including economic stress, mental stress, lack of relevant knowledge and information, and 5 sub themes were obtained including the high cost of medical work, work and income being affected, worried about the future of the family, prominent psychological problems, lack of emotional support. Conclusion Caregiver burden is heavy among primary caregivers of advanced cancer patients in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Clinical nurses should strengthen the assessment of the status of care load, and formulate targeted interventions to reduce the burden of care and improve the quality of life of family caregivers and patients.
