Research progress on the mechanism of shikonin against cervical cancer |

Abstract Cervical cancer is a common malignant tumor in women. Studies have shown that shikonin could induce ROS in human cervical cancer cells, regulate the activity of MAPKs, upregulate the expression of p53, change the protein level of B-cell lymphoma-2 family, trigger a cascade of caspase cascades, perturbate the mitochondrial membrane permeability and release the cyt ochrome-C from the mitochondria to the cytoplasm, which induces apoptosis of cells. In addition, it could also inhibit cell proliferation, promote apoptosis and reduce its biological behavior by decreasing the expression level and phosphorylation level of FAK in human cervical cancer cells. In this paper, a summary review is given about the detailed mechanism.
