Abstract [Abstract] Calcium plays a critical role in cerebral vascular system. However, calcium intake is generally low in Chinese population. It is still a debate on the relationship between calcium and stroke diseases. Herein, it is found that different conclusions have been made by recent studies. Most of them indicate that calcium has a negative correlation in the incidence of stroke. Some demonstrate that there is no obvious relationship between calcium and stroke. However, some even show that high calcium intake may increase the risk occurrence of stroke diseases. Recent meta-analysis presents that calcium is a protective factor of the stroke in the long-term follow-up. This article will review the relationship between calcium and stroke in detail.
