Cardiac function in rat models with abdominal aortic constriction and the therapeutic effect of Qianyang Decoction evaluated by color Doppler echocardiography |

Abstract Objective To evaluate cardiac function in rat models with abdominal aortic constriction and the therapeutic effect of Qianyang Decoction by means of color Doppler echocardiography. Methods Forty male Wistar rats, clean grade, were divided into four groups by random number table, including sham group, control group, TCM group and Perindopril group, with 10 rats in each group. All rats were undergone the abdominal aortic constriction surgery, except the rats in the sham group. Drug intervention was initiated 8 weeks after the models were made, with a total of 12 weeks of intervention. Then the peripheral blood pressure and cardiac function were studied in each group of rats at the end of 12 weeks after treatment. Results At 20 weeks after models made, the systolic pressure (SBP) of the rats in the control group was significantly increased (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the SBP of the rats in the TCM group and the Perindopril group were reduced (P < 0.05). The interventricular septal thickness (IVSd) in the control group was increased (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the IVSd was decreased in TCM group (P < 0.05), the IVSd was decreased in Perindopril group as well(P < 0.05). Peak E-Wave Velocity was decreased in the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, Peak E-Wave Velocity was increased in TCM group (P < 0.05). The ratio of E/A was obviously decreased in the control group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the ratio of E/A was increased in TCM group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Color Doppler echocardiography is a useful tool for evaluation of cardiac diastolic function in rat models with abdominal aortic constriction. Qianyang Decoction can effectively reduce peripheral blood pressure of abdominal aortic constriction rats, inhibit left ventricular hypertrophy and improve left ventricular diastolic function.
