Impact of subclinical hypothyroidism on the insulin resistance and lipid profiles of PCOS patients |

Abstract Objective To evaluate the characteristics of insulin resistance and lipid metabolism of PCOS patients with SCH. Methods A total of 200 patients with PCOS were recruited at the Department of Endocrinology, Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from September 2015 to October 2016. And they were divided into two groups: 41 cases of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH-PCOS group) as study group and 159 cases of normal thyroid function (EU-PCOS group) as control group. The clinical features, sex hormone levels, fasting insulin levels and serum lipids between the groups were investigated. Results Body mass index (BMI), fasting insulin (FIN) and homeostatic model assessment -insulin resistance (HOMA-IR ) were higher than those in SCH-PCOS group (P < 0.05). Lipid metabolism was slightly abnormal, but the difference was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Conclusion The analysis indicates that PCOS complicated with SCH patients have more severe obesity and insulin resistance than those with normal thyroid functions.
