Abstract Objective To explore the expression of serum soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) and its clinical significance. Methods A total of 97 patients with sudden deafness admitted to Nanjing Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital from January 2016 to June 2017 were selected as the case group, 60 healthy subjects were randomly selected as the control group at the same period. The serum sVCAM-1 level in the two groups was measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, in addition, the relationship between sVCAM-1 with patients' demographic data and the diagnostic value of sVCAM-1 for sudden deafness were analyzed. Results The serum sVCAM-1 level in the case group was higher than that of control group, with statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The sVCAM-1 level of patients at the age≥45 was higher than the age<45, and sVCAM-1 level in patients with severe hearing loss was more higher, and sVCAM-1 level in patients with total deafness type was more higher than those in other types, sVCAM-1 level of patients with upper respiratory tract infection and cardiovascular complications were more higher, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). The ROC area of sVCAM-1 in the diagnosis of sudden deafness was 0.904 (95%CI:0.841-0.967), the sensitivity was 76.5% and the specificity was 91.8%, the best truncation value of sVCAM-1 at this time was 579.23 ng/mL. Conclusion The serum sVCAM-1 in patients with sudden deafness is significantly elevated, which is closely related to age, hearing loss, hearing curve, upper respiratory tract infection and cerebrovascular complications. Early detection can effectively predict the occurrence of sudden deafness.
