Application of microendoscopic discectomy associated with annulus fibrosus repair in prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc |

Abstract Objective To investigate the application effect of microendoscopic discectomy associated with annulus repair in patients with single segment of prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc. Methods The clinical data of 19 cases of patients with prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc underwent microendoscopic discectomy associated with annulus fibrosus repair treated in Jiangsu Province Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2014 to December 2015 was analyzed retrospectively. The postoperative effects were evaluated by visual analogue score (VAS), Oswestry disability index (ODI) and MacNab standard. Results All patients completed the follow-up, and the mean follow-up was (27.30±5.24) months (18-37 months). No recurrence was found in 19 cases. The scores of VAS before operation, after operation for 3 months, after operation for 1 year and at the final follow-up were (7.11±0.86), (1.58±1.03), (1.37±0.81), (1.26±0.73) scores respectively. The scores of each postoperative time point were all lower than those before operation, with highly statistically significant differences (all P < 0.01). The ODI before operation, after operation for 3 months, after operation for 1 year and at the final follow-up were (63.73±10.86)%, (22.26±7.58)%, (16.47±3.34)% and (14.21±3.67)% respectively. The scores of each postoperative time points were all lower than those before operation, with highly statistically significant differences (all P < 0.01). Short term clinical efficacy was evaluated by MacNab standard: 14 cases were excellent, 4 cases were good and 1 case was better. The excellent and good rate was 94.7%. Conclusion Microendoscopic discectomy associated with annulus fibrosus repair is an effective mini-invasive therapy for the treatment of single segment of prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc. Controlling the indications strictly is helpful to achieve the satisfactory curative effect and low recurrence rate.
