| Analysis of patent situation of a medical university affiliated hospital for 2007-2016 years and correlative countermeasures |

Abstract Objective To investigate the way to improve the quality and translational potential of patents by analyzing the patent applications of the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University in last ten years, in order to provide a reference for the establishment of relevant policies. Methods The date of applied and authorized patents in Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University from January 2007 to December 2016 were made statistics, the number of applications, authorizations, patent types, translation and the basic information of the first inventors were analyzed by χ2 test and descriptive analysis with SPSS 19.0. Results From January 2015 to December 2016, the number of patent applications was 158 cases (54.67%), and authorizations was 118 cases (65.92%), these were significantly higher than the first eight years. Specifically, there was a significant difference in the percentage of invention patent(5.03%), utility model patent(94.41%) and design patent(0.56%) among all the authorized patents (P < 0.01). People with primary or intermediate titles were the majority of patent inventors, made up 72.07% of the total number. However, the patent enforcement rate was low. Conclusion There is a good trend of hospital patent work, however, the patents quality needs to be further improved. To promote the transformations and implementations, more efforts should be focussed on the intellectual property rights protection, incentive policy, as well as the construction of scientific and technological achievements conversion platform.
