Effect of Longdan Xiegan Decoction in the treatment of herpes zoster and on the expression of p38 MAPK gene |

Abstract Objective To analyze the clinical efficacy of Longdan Xiegan Decoction in the treatment of herpes zoster and its influence on the expression of p38 MAPK gene in the affected skin. Methods Clinical data of 153 cases treated in the Dermatology Department of Guangzhou Red Cross Hospital from June 2017 to January 2016 was randomized into observation group (80 cases) and control group (73 cases). The control group received basic treatment combined with red-blue light treatment, the observation group was treated with Longdan Xiegan Decoction combined with red-blue light therapy. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. Blister subsided time, scabby time, pain relief time were recorded before and after treatment, the clinical curative effect was evaluated. At the same time, the expression level of p38 MAPK gene was detected in each group. Results After treatment, blister subsided time, scabby time, pain relief time in the observation group were significantly shorter than those of the control group (P < 0.05), the total effective rate of the observation group after treatment was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). In the two groups, the expression levels of p38 MAPK after treatment were significantly lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05), while the observation group was significantly lower than that of control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Longdan Xiegan Decoction combined with red-blue light in the treatment of herpes zoster can effectively improve the clinical efficacy and the level of p38 MAPK gene in the attacked area.
