Abstract  Objective To observe the clinical effect of implanting catgut in acupoint combined with continuous positive airway pressure in the treatment of patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and obesity. Methods A total of 60 patients with OSAHS and obesity admitted to Department of Pulmonary Diseases, Lishui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Zhejiang University of Chinese Medicine from April 2019 to September 2020 were selected and divided into control group and treatment group according to random number table method, with 30 patients in each group. Both groups were treated with diet control and moderate aerobic exercise, while the control group was treated with continuous positive airway pressure ventilation at night. The treatment group was treated with implanting catgut in acupoint on the basis of the control group. The treatment course of both groups was 60 d. The clinical efficacy of the two groups and the changes of sleep apnea hypopnea index (AHI), lowest arterial oxygen saturation (LSaO2), Epworth sleepiness scale score (ESS), body weight, and body mass index (BMI) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Results The therapeutic effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, AHI, ESS score, body weight, and BMI of two groups were lower than those before the treatment, LSaO2 was higher than that before the treatment, while AHI, ESS score, body weight, and BMI in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, LSaO2 was higher than that in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Implanting catgut in acupoint combined with continuous positive airway pressure in the treatment of patients with OSAHS with obesity has significant effect, which is worthy of clinical recommendation.
