Abstract Antimicrobial peptides as new anti-infective drugs have been paid more and more attention. By studying the mechanism of action of antimicrobial peptides, it is found that antimicrobial peptides can act on multiple different targets of bacteria and fungi, making it difficult for pathogenic bacteria to respond to them in a single way, and thus difficult to develop drug resistance. However, the slow release of antimicrobial peptides is still a difficult problem to be solved. From the point of view of the combination and release of antimicrobial peptides with different carriers, the slow release mechanism of antimicrobial peptides on different carriers is explained. It is considered that the electrostatic binding force between ions is the key to slow release. At the same time, this paper discussed the improvement and optimization of antimicrobial peptides and the current clinical application progress, hoping to provide the direction for further clinical application of antimicrobial peptides.
