Abstract Objective To analyze the rule of taking herbal medicine internally in treating atopic dermatitis. Methods Literatures related to internal treatment of atopic dermatitis were selected from Chinese Medical Code, China National Knowledge Network, Wanfang Data, and VIP from January 1990 to March 2022. The frequency analysis, cluster analysis, association rules, and complex network construction methods were used to count the frequency, four qi, five flavor, meridian normalization, efficacy, associated drug pairs, and core Chinese medicines, and the medication rule of atopic dermatitis was analyzed. Results A total of 237 literatures, 151 prescriptions, and 211 traditional Chinese medicines were included. In the treatment of atopic dermatitis, licorice, poria, Radix angica, atractylodes, and so on were used. The drug properties were mainly cold and warm, and the drug tastes were mostly sweet, bitter, and pungent. The main function of returning to the channel were spleen, lung, liver, and stomach, and the main effect of traditional Chinese medicine was clearing heat, benefiting qi, promoting water and dampness, dispelling wind. The most frequent drug combination was atractylodes, poria cocos. Through complex network analysis, the core traditional Chinese medicine for atopic dermatitis was obtained. Conclusion Traditional Chinese medicine treatment of atopic dermatitis mainly focuses on dispelling wind and clearing heat, strengthening spleen and dampness, nourishing blood and moistening dryness, which can provide theoretical reference for clinical treatment of atopic dermatitis.
