Abstract:Objective To analyze the related factors of airway injury in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal cancer. Methods A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of patients treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery in the Thoracic Hospital of Shanghai Jiaotong University from October 2018 to February 2021. According to the presence or absence of airway injury during the operation, they were divided into an occurrence group (68 cases) and a non-occurring group (68 cases). The medical records were cherked, and the patient’s baseline data, intraoperative conditions, and postoperative pathological results were recorded. The high-risk factors of intraoperative airway injury in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal cancer were analyzed. Results The proportion of smoking history and simple general anesthesia in the occurrence group were higher than those in the non-occurring group, and the air bag pressure value and the time of one-lung ventilation were higher than those in the non-occurring group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The history of smoking, simple general anesthesia, high balloon pressure, and long one-lung ventilation time were risk factors for airway injury in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal cancer (OR > 1, P < 0.05). Conclusion Intraoperative airway injury in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery for esophageal cancer may be affected by smoking history, anesthesia methods, balloon pressure values, and one-lung ventilation time.
