Abstract:Objective To analyze the arteriosclerosis-related projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China from 2015 to 2019, to discuss current research hotspots in this field, and to provide references for subsequent research on atherosclerosis. Methods The atherosclerosis-related projects approved from 2015 to 2019 were counted, and the project year, type, and subject distribution were analyzed, while CiteSpace software for keyword visualization analysis was applied to explore the current funding hotspots of the National Natural Science Foundation of China in the field of atherosclerosis. Results In the past five years, the total number of atherosclerosis-related projects has been 662 items, and the number of projects each year has been relatively stable. Among them, the medical science department has 612 items (92.4%), which account for the highest proportion, and the establishment of the project showed the phenomenon of multi-disciplinary collaboration. The regional distribution of funded projects was uneven, and the projects were concentrated in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and other regions. Keyword co-occurrence results showed that macrophages, inflammation, and endothelial cells were the top three keywords with frequency. Keyword clustering results showed that endothelial cells, macrophages, and microRNA were the top three research clusters. Conclusion The National Natural Science Foundation of China is an important national support for basic research. Researchers should grasp research hotspots, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and multi-technology joint application to promote deeper exploration of atherosclerosis research.
