Abstract:Objective To explore the application effect of health education based on narrative medicine model in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation undergoing radiofrequency ablation. Methods From January to December 2019, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital who underwerrt radiofrequency ablation to treat 112 elderly patients with atrial fibrillation were selected. According to the random number table method, they were divided into experimental group of 57 cases and control group of 55 cases. The control group was given regular health education, and the experimental group was jointly applied with narrative medicine model health education. Follow-up for six months, the level of knowledge and behavior, complications, quality of life of radiofrequency ablation were compared between the two groups. Results Excluding those who fell off during follow-up, 55 cases and 51 cases were included in the experimental group and control group, respectively. Follow-up for six months, the total scores of health-related knowledge, beliefs, behaviors and knowledge, beliefs and behaviors of the two groups were higher than those before education, while the experimental group was higher than the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). The total incidence of complications in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After six months of follow-up, the quality of life score of the experimental group was higher than that before education; the scores of physiological function, physiological function, physical pain, vitality, social function, emotional function, and mental health of the control group were higher than those before education, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After six months of follow-up, the scores of physiological function, physiological function, social function, emotional function, and mental health of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Health education based on the narrative medicine model can help improve the knowledge, belief, and behavior of elderly patients undergoing radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation, reduce the incidence of complications, and improve the quality of life of patients.
