Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of empowerment health education on the self-management ability and quality of life of peripherallyinserted central catheters (PICC) patients with hematological tumors. Methods A total of 90 PICC patients with hematological tumors admitted to the Affiliated Huai’an Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University from January 2017 to December 2018 were selected as the research objects. According to the random number table method, they were divided into treatment group and control group, with 45 cases in each group. The control group was given regular health education, and the treatment group was given a joint application of empowerment health education. Follow up for six months, the PICC self-management ability, PICC-related complications, quality of life of cancer patients were compared between the two groups. Results Follow-up for 6 months, 42 cases were actually included in the treatment group and 38 cases were included in the control group. The self-management ability scores of the two groups were significantly higher than those before the intervention, the catheter maintenance compliance, handling of abnormal situations, tube exercise, information acquisition, tube daily life scores, and PICC self-management ability total scores of treatment group were higher than those of the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05); The total rate of PICC-related complications in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). the functional assessment of cancer therapy-general (FACT-G) score of the two groups was significantly higher than that before the intervention of the same group, the physiological status, emotional status, activity ability scores, and FACT-G total scores of treatment group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Empowerment health education can help promote the development of PICC self-management ability of PICC patients with hematological tumor, reduce the occurrence of PICC-related complications, and improve the quality of life of patients.
