Methods Seventy-two patients with mastodynia diagnosed at Outpatient Department of Acupuncture & Massage, Shenzhen Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine and Outpatient Department of Acupuncture & Massage, Shenzhen Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital from July 2019 to August 2020 were selected and divided into control group and treatment group by random number table method, with 36 cases in each group. Control group was treated with Chaihu Shugan Pills, and treatment group was treated with dredging meridians and regulating viscera manipulations, including meridian massage and pressing needle. Both groups were treated for two menstrual cycles. Mastodynia visual analogue scale (VAS), short form McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and Chinese medicine syndrome scores of two groups were compared before and after treatment, and clinical effects of two groups were compared. Results After treatment, mastodynia VAS score and SF-MPQ score in two groups were lower than those before treatment, and treatment group was lower than control group, the difference was highly statistically significant (P < 0.01). After treatment, Chinese medicine syndrome score of two groups was lower than that before treatment, and treatment group was lower than control group, the difference was highly statistically significant (P < 0.01). There was no significant difference of total clinical effective rate between two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion Dredging meridians and regulating viscera manipulations is effective in the treatment of mastodynia with liver depression and qi stagnation syndrome, which can effectively improve its clinical symptoms, the quality of life of patients, and it is better than oral Chaihu Shugan Pills.
