Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features of a rare type of basal cell carcinoma around the eye. Methods Clinical and pathological data of 116 patients with periocular basal cell carcinoma were retrospectively analyzed in Tangshan Eye Hospital from January 2009 to June 2019. Results The pathological type of 116 patients was nodular basal cell carcinoma 64 cases (55.2%). Nodular mixed basal cell carcinoma with infiltration 18 cases (15.5%), squamous cell basal cell carcinoma 17 cases (14.7%), pigmented basal cell carcinoma 11 cases (9.5%), sclerosing type/pleomorphic basal cell carcinoma 6 cases (5.1%), the rare types of periocular basal cell carcinoma were squamous carcinoma, pigmented basal cell carcinoma and sclerosing/morphoeic basal cell carcinoma. Conclusion In the diagnosis of a rare type of basal cell carcinoma around the eye, attention should be paid to the differentiation between benign and malignant tumors with similar gross and histological morphology.
