Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of surgical excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation in the treatment of pterygium and its effect on tear film and visual function. Methods A total of 64 patients with pterygium treated in the Department of Ophthalmology, Wuhu Second People’s Hospital, Anhui Province from June 2017 to April 2020 were selected as the research subjects. They were divided into control group and observation group by random number table method, with 32 cases in each group. The control group was treated with surgical excision, and the observation group was treated with surgical excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation. Clinical efficacy, breakup time of tear film (BUT), schirmer I test (SIT), naked eye vision, corneal horizontal curvature, corneal vertical curvature and astigmatism were compared between the two groups. Results The total effective rate of observation group was higher than control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, BUT, SIT, naked eye vision, corneal horizontal curvature and corneal vertical curvature in the observation group were higher than those in the control group, while astigmatism was lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant (all P < 0.05). Conclusion Surgical excision combined with limbal stem cell transplantation is effective in the treatment of pterygium and can improve tear film and visual function.
