Abstract:Objective To observe the occurrence of patient-ventilator asynchrony in children with mechanical ventilation in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), and to analyze the influencing factors of patient-ventilator asynchrony. Methods A total of 84 children with mechanical ventilation treated in PICU of Fuyang People’s Hospital from January 2018 to May 2020 were selected as study objects. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to identify the influencing factors of patient-ventilator asynchrony in children with mechanical ventilation in PICU. Results Twenty children had patient-ventilator asynchrony, and the incidence rate was 23.81% (20/84). There were statistically significant differences in the amount of airway secretions, the incidence of airway spasm, ventilator-related causes, crying and noisy, and improper position of tracheal intubation between two groups (all P < 0.05). Airway spasm, ventilator-related causes, crying and noisy, improper position of tracheal intubation and excessive airway secretion were the influencing factors of patient-ventilator asynchrony in children with mechanical ventilation in PICU (OR > 1, P < 0.05). Conclusion The presence of airway spasm and ventilator-related causes in children with mechanical ventilation in PICU may increase the risk of patient-ventilator asynchrony. Clinical attention should be paid to early preventive intervention in children with mechanical ventilation in PICU with the above risk factors, which may have positive significance in reducing the occurrence of patient-ventilator asynchrony.
