Abstract:Objective To investigate clinical effect of transurethral enucleation of prostate (TUEP) in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in the elderly. Methods Sixty-two elderly patients with BPH hospitalized in the Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Wuxi City of Jiangsu Province from January 2017 to December 2018 were selected as research objects. They were divided into transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) group of 27 cases and TUEP group of 35 cases according to the different treatment methods. The operation time, weight of resected tissue, blood loss, extubation time, postoperative complications, IPSS score, QOL score, IIEF-5 score, Qmax and RUV were compared between two groups. Results The operation time and extubation time of TUEP group were shorter than those of TURP group, the weight of resected tissue of TUEP group was larger than that of TURP group, and the amount of bleeding of TUEP group was less than that of TURP group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in total incidence of postoperative complications between two groups (P > 0.05). Three months after operation, IPSS and QOL scores of two groups were lower than those before operation, IIEF-5 score of TURP group was lower than that before operation and TUEP group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Three months after operation, Qmax of two groups was higher than that before operation, RUV of two groups was less than that before operation, and Qmax of TUEP group was higher than that of TURP group, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The efficacy of TUEP in the treatment of BPH is exact, with fewer complications and less influence on sexual function after operation. It is worth popularizing and applying.
