Abstract:Exosomes are multivesicular bodies in cells with a diameter of 40-100 nm, it can be carried proteins and microRNA (miRNA) to target cells through cell membrane fusion and endocytosis. Intercellular communication mediated by transporters and nucleic acids, which mediate the information exchange between cells and regulate the physiological functions of cells. In recent years, exosomes have become the focus a research hotspot, exosomes influenced islet β-cells function and insulin sensitivity by increasing apoptosis of islets β-cells and mediating cytokine, thus participating in the occurrence of diabetes mellitus (DM). The researches have found that exosome miRNA plays a role in the development of DM. In this paper, the application of exosomal-derived miRNA in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of DM are reviewed.
