Abstract:Objective To analyze the clinical research literature of vagal nerve stimulation (VNS) in PubMed, summarize its research status and clinical characteristics, so as to provide reference for its research. Methods All literatures about VNS included in PubMed from January 1990 to June 2020 were retrieved, the co-occurrence analysis of authors, countries, institutions, journals and keywords were carried out by using CiteSpace software. Through information extraction and table drawing, the clinical characteristics of VNS, such as disease spectrum, therapeutic effect, stimulation mode and parameters were summarized and analyzed. Results A total of 138 literatures were included. The author who published the most articles was Zhu Bing; the top three countries were USA (75 articles), Germany (26 articles), Netherlands and UK (all 14 articles); the most published institutions were China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (7 articles), Electrocore (7 articles) and Minnesota University (7 articles). It was published in 78 journals, and the top two magazines were Epilepsia (11 articles) and Neurology (10 articles). The related research of VNS in the treatment of epilepsy and depression were research hotspot. The study involved 27 diseases, of which epilepsy, depression and migraine had the largest number; the main stimulation methods were implantable and percutaneous; and the main frequency of stimulation was low frequency, and the parameters depend on the disease and the mode of stimulation. Conclusion VNS has a good effect on neuropsychiatric diseases, especially epilepsy and depression. The research level of ear VNS is in the leading position in China. Non-implantable VNS will become a new research and development direction.
