ESI-based bibliometric analysis on discipline competitiveness of 48 medical universities in mainland China

Abstract:Objective To quantitative analysis of discipline competitiveness of 48 medical universities in mainland China. Methods With the help of essential science indicators (ESI), the indexes of ESI papers, ESI rankings, highly cited papers, and hot papers in 48 medical universities were compared by quantitatively analysis. Results Capital Medical University ranked first in the ESI ranking of medical universities in the country with 233 297 citations, and ranked 596th worldwide. Nanjing Medical University had the most ESI subjects among the 48 universities. Capital Medical University ranked first in terms of volume of publications, published 23 930 papers, and ranked 334th in the world. The Second Military Medical University was ranked first in 48 medical universities with 14.05 articles cited. Capital Medical University has 13 hot papers, ranked first. Followed by Nanjing Medical University, there are 6 hot papers. Clinical medicine is a discipline included in 48 medical universities in the ESI ranking nationwide. In addition, 23 universities have 1% of the top 1 disciplines in pharmacology and toxicology ESI. Conclusion There is a certain distance between domestic medical universities and first-class foreign universities in terms of the number of high-impact papers and the index of citations, and it is urgent to further strengthen and improve.
