Application of standardized management based on Joint Commission certificated by American Medical Institutions on high risk drugs management in Department of Urology of our hospital

Abstract:Objective To explore the application of standardized management based on Joint Commission certificated by American Medical Institutions (JCI) on high risk drugs management in Department of Urology of Changhai Hospital of Shanghai ("our hospital" for short). Methods Since July 2016, standardized management model based on American JCI system were applied into high-risk drug management in Department of Urology of our hospital. The management satuation of high-risk drugs in Department of Urology before implementation of the model (from January to June 2016) was compared with that after implementation (from July to December 2016). Results After implementation, high-risk drug classification, disease, contraindication, storage, allocation, audit knowledge by nurses were significantly higher than those before implementation, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). After implementation, high risk drug classification storage, double check, independent storage, personal management, base management, list of spare drugs, effective management, warning signs pass rate were significantly higher than those before implementation, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion Standardized management based on American JCI system can improve nurses' awareness of safe medication, and strengthen the management of high-risk drugs.
