Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of psychological nursing guided by Maslow′s hierarchy of needs theory on the high quality nursing care for patients with fungal keratitis. Methods One hundred patients with (138 eyes) consecutive fungal keratitis admitted in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from November 2012 to May 2015 were divided into two groups by convenient sampling method, including 50 cases (66 eyes) in control group and 50 cases (72 eyes) in experimental group. The control group was received routine basic nursing and ophthalmic nursing, while the experimental groups was received psychological nursing intervention guided by Maslow′s hierarchy of needs based on the control group. Then, the Self-assessment Lists of Symptom (SCL-90) scores in the two groups on admission, during the therapeutic and at the time of discharge were compared. The quality nursing satisfaction scores were compared between the two groups at the time of discharge. Results At the time of admission, all factors evaluated in the SCL-90 in the both groups were higher than the normal value (P < 0.05). There were no differences between the two groups (P > 0.05). During the therapeutic and at the time of discharge, the SCL-90 scores of the two groups were increased significantly compared with those at the time of admission (P < 0.05). The scores of somatization factor, interpersonal sensitivity factor, depression factor and anxiety factor in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). At the time of discharge, the SCL-90 scores for interpersonal sensitivity factor, depression factor, anxiety factor, hostility and phobia in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). The quality nursing satisfaction scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Psychological nursing guided by Maslow′s hierarchy of needs theory can effectively improve psychological state of the fungal keratitis patients, and improve the quality of nursing satisfaction.
