Abstract:Objective To study the relationship between five kinds of fruits and the incidence of bladder cancer. Methods A multicenter case-control study was conducted from September 2005 to June 2012. Four hundred and thirty-two cases of bladder cancer and 392 cases of non bladder cancer were recruited in Guangzhou First People′s Hospital, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Central South University, Tongji Hospital Affiliated to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University. Patients with bladder cancer were classified as experimental group, and non bladder cancer patients were classified as control group. Patients of two groups were investigated and data was collected for statistical analysis. Results The response rate and the effective rate of questionnaire of the experimental group were 99.1% and 100.0%, and those of the control group were 99.5% and 100.0% respectively. Eating citrus fruits more than or equal to 2 times per week could significantly reduce the risk of bladder cancer(P < 0.05). Conclusion Eating more citrus fruits may help reduce the risk of bladder cancer.
