Abstract:Objective To know the awareness of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary rehabilitation knowledge in grassroots community nurses. Methods In December 2016, self-edited questionnaire was used to investigate the awareness of COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation knowledge in 77 community nurses in Jingzhou City. Results Nobody knew the assessment of COPD patients with the modified version of the medical research council dyspnea index (mMRC), the methods of rehabilitation included exercise training, smoking cessation, nutrition consultation and education. Nobody knew the assessment of oxygenation status with pulse oximeter, and the standard and methods of breathing exercises and long term oxygen therapy. 93.51% community nurses did not know the assessment of the health and life status of COPD patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease assessment (CAT). 88.31% community nurses did not know that the 6-minute-walking test could be used to assess the effectiveness of impaired exercise tolerance and lung rehabilitation in patients. Conclusion The community nurses lack the knowledge of COPD and pulmonary rehabilitation. It is necessary to promote the train for community nurses to improve their ability to manage COPD patients and perform pulmonary rehabilitation.
