Abstract:Objective To observe the impact of back meridians manipulations on insomnia para-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA)-treated rats′ behavior. Methods The random number table was generated by software SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The random function was Rvuiform and the seed number was 1234. According to the random number table, 30 male insomnia SD rats were divided into back meridians manipulation group (group A), blank control group (group B), drug treatment group (group C), with 10 rats in each group. Before and after the PCPA was successfully injected to the rats, 7 days after giving the corresponding interventions to each group, there were three time points at which data were collected from the rats′ behavior, including the data changes in the open field test (the total number of horizontal movements and vertical movements), exhaustive swimming test and tail suspension test. Results Before treatment, the differences among the three groups in exhaustive swimming time, total number of movements, struggling frequency and despair time were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). After treatment, the exhaustive swimming time and despair time of group B were lower than those before treatment (P < 0.05); comparing group A and group C before and after treatment, the differences on the exhaustive swimming time and despair time were all non-statistically significant (P > 0.05). Compared with group B, the exhaustion time of group A and group C were increased, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05); and there was no statistically significant difference in exhaustion time between group A and group C (P > 0.05). After treatment, the struggling frequency of three groups were less than those before treatment, the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion There is abnormality in the behavior of insomnia PCPA-treated rats. It can be used in the basic experimental study tuina treatment for insomnia; in behavioral aspects, back meridians manipulations and Diazepam can both significantly alleviate the decline of movement ability, cardiopulmonary function and ability to explore new environment of insomnia rats, which objectively reflects that tuina manipulations can improve insomnia.
