Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical effect of digital impression and traditional impression on complete denture restoration for patients with edentulous. Methods Sixty patients with edentulous admitted to Fuzhou Fuyi Stomatological Hospital of Jiangxi Province from January to December 2022 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into digital group and traditional group by random number table method, with 30 cases in each group. Patients in digital group wore complete dentures made using digital impressions, while patients in traditional group wore complete dentures made using secondary impressions. The impression comfort score and impression time of two groups were compared; the clinical effect of denture restoration was compared between two groups; the overall satisfaction of dentures before restoration and at one, two, and three months after restoration was compared between two groups; and the mastication efficiency and total grinding times were compared between two groups. Results The impression comfort score of digital group was higher than that of traditional group, and impression time was shorter than that of traditional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in aesthetics and pronunciation scores between two groups (P>0.05); while the tenderness, retention stability, and denture comfort scores of digital group were lower than those of traditional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The overall analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between groups, time, and interaction in the overall satisfaction score after denture restoration between two groups (P<0.05). Further pound-to-group comparison and intra-group comparison: the overall satisfaction scores after denture restoration of two groups were compared at different time points, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Inter-group comparison: at two and three months after restoration, the overall satisfaction scores of the digital group were lower than those of traditional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The masticatory efficiency of digital group was lower than that of traditional group, and the total grinding times were higher than those of traditional group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion The two impression methods have their own advantages in the process of making full denture. The digital impression method has better impression comfort and shorter time, while the traditional impression method has more obvious advantages in the aspects of denture comfort, tenderness, retention stability and chewing efficiency.
