Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of airway stents in the treatment of central airway tumors. Methods A total of 80 patients with central airway tumors who were treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University and Yixing Hospital Affiliated to Jiangsu University from January 2020 to March 2023 were selected, the airway stents was given. Blood gas analysis, lung function index, and quality of life were observed before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the partial pressure of arterial oxygen and saturation of arterial oxygen were higher than those before treatment, and the fraction of arterial carbon dioxide was lower than that before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, forced expiratory capacity in first second, forced vital capacity, maximum expiratory flow, maximum gas volume per minute, total lung, and functional residual capacity were higher than those before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the overall symptom score of the European Organization Research and treatment quality of life scale was lower than that before treatment, and the physical, role, emotional, cognitive, and social dimension scores were higher than those before treatment (P<0.05). Conclusion Airway stents in the treatment of central airway tumors has a good effect, significantly improving the patient’s blood gas, lung function, and quality of life indicators. The treatment effect may be influenced by age, pathological stage, and stenosis degree.
