Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of Toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) and nuclear factor-κB p65 (NF-κB p65) in skin lesions of patients with condyloma acuminatum. Methods Ninety-two patients with condyloma acuminatum treated in Nantong Third People’s Hospital of Jiangsu Province (hereinafter referred to as “our hospital”) from January 2020 to August 2022 were selected as the observation group, and 55 adult males who underwent circumcision and 37 adult females who underwent vulvoplasty in our hospital during the same period were selected as the control group. The expressions of TLR4 and NF-κB p65 protein in skin lesions of the observation group and skin tissues of the control group were detected by immunohistochemical staining. The differences in TLR4 and NF-κB p65 protein expression between the two groups were compared, and the differences in TLR4 and NF-κB p65 protein expression in patients with different clinical characteristics of the observation group were further analyzed. Results The positive rates of expression of TLR4 and NF-κB p65 in observation group were higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The positive rate of expression of TLR4 protein in patients with disease course ≥ 3 months, number of warts ≥ 10, and maximum diameter of warts ≥10 mm were higher than those in patients with disease course < 3 months, number of warts < 10, and maximum diameter of warts < 10 mm (P<0.05). The positive rate of expression of NF-κB p65 protein in patients with number of warts ≥ 10 and maximum diameter of ≥10 mm were higher than those in patients with number of warts < 10 and maximum diameter of < 10 mm (P<0.05). Conclusion The high expression of TLR4 and NF-κB p65 proteins in the skin lesions of patients with condyloma acuminatum may be related to the number of warts, the maximum diameter of warts, and the course of disease.
