Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of whole-process follow-up empowerment education on patients with laryngeal cancer after partial laryngectomy. Methods A total of 121 patients with laryngeal cancer who underwent partial laryngectomy at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Medical University of Chinese People’s Liberation Army from March 2017 to March 2022 were selected, according to random number table method, they were divided into control group (60 cases) and observation group (61 cases). The control group received routine nursing, and the observation group received whole-process follow-up empowerment education based on routine nursing. The compliance, improvement of swallowing function, nutritional status, and quality of life of the two groups were compared. Results The compliance of swallowing function training in the observation group was better than that in the control group (P<0.05). At three months after operation, the scores of lowland drinking water test and diet assessment scale scores in both groups were lower than one day before discharge, and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). At three months after surgery, the patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) score of both groups was lower than one day after surgery, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer head and neck tumor specific quality of life questionnaire (EORTC QOL-H&N35) score was higher than one day after surgery, and the PG-SGA score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, EORTC QOL-H&N35 score was higher than that of control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The application of whole-process follow-up empowerment education in laryngeal cancer patients with partial laryngectomy can effectively improve their compliance with swallowing function training, and further improve their swallowing function, nutritional status, and quality of life.
