Abstract:Objective To analyze the therapeutic effect of Sanzi Sanhuang Decoction on combined phlegm and stasis- induced polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods A total of 130 patients diagnosed with PCOS with phlegm-stasis interjunction type were selected from Professor Wang Ting’s outpatient clinic of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from January 2017 to June 2022. According to the treatment drugs, 60 cases were divided into control group and treated with Progesterone Soft Capsules; 70 cases were divided into observation group and treated with Sanzi Sanhuang Decoction, treatment period of three months. After matching with propensity score, 35 cases in control group and observation group were finally included. Menstrual status, body mass index (BMI), syndrome score of phlegm-stasis interjunction, hormone level, basal body temperature (BBT), ovarian volume and efficacy of the two groups were analyzed before and after treatment. Results After treatment, BMI in the observation group was lower than that before treatment (P < 0.01), while there was no significant difference of BMI compared with before treatment in the control group (P>0.05). After treatment, the BMI of observation group was lower than that of control group (P<0.01). After treatment, the scores of menstrual disorder and syndrome of phlegm, and blood stasis in the two groups were lower than those before treatment (P<0.01), and the scores of phlegm and blood stasis syndrome in the observation group were lower than those in the control group (P<0.05), and there was no statistical significance in the scores of menstrual disorder between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, the levels of testosterone, luteinizing hormone and luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone in the two groups were decreased compared with before treatment (P<0.01), and the level of estradiol was increased compared with that before treatment (P<0.01). There was no statistical significance in FSH between the two groups compared with before treatment (P>0.05). There was no significant difference (P>0.05). After treatment, the number of BBT biphasic body temperature cases in two groups was increased compared with before treatment (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the number of BBT biphasic body temperature cases between the two groups after treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the bilateral ovarian volume of both groups were lower than those before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the bilateral ovarian volume of both groups was lower than before treatment, and the observation group was lower than the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in clinical efficacy between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Sanzi Sanhuang Decoction can improve menstrual disorders in PCOS patients, reduce the syndrome score of phlegm, blood stasis and mutual junction, improve the status of polycystic ovaries and hormone level disorders, and promote ovulation recovery, which is clinically safe and effective. Sanzi Sanhuang Decoction is superior to Progesterone Soft Capsule in reducing patients’ BMI and improving traditional Chinese medicine syndromes.
