Effects of guided imagination training on hope level, coping style and negative emotion in patients with depression

Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of guided imagination training on hope level, coping style and negative emotion in patients with depression. Methods A total of 100 male patients with depression admitted to Zibo City Mental Health Center of Shandong Province from February 2021 to February 2022 were selected and divided into observation group and control group according to random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The control group was received routine nursing for depression, while the observation group was received guided imagination training on the basis of routine nursing. After four weeks of intervention, hope level, coping style, and anxiety and depression level were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results After four weeks of intervention, the scores of realistic and future attitudes, adopting positive actions, and maintaining close relationships with others in the two groups were higher than before intervention, while those of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After four weeks of intervention, the scores of positive coping and negative coping in two groups were higher than before intervention, while those of the observation group were higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). After four weeks of intervention, anxiety and depression scores of the two groups were higher than before intervention, while those of the observation group was higher than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion Guided imagination training can improve the hope level of depression patients, enhance the ability of patients to deal with the disease, and reduce the degree of anxiety and depression.
