Abstract:Objective To explore the effect of FOCUS-PDCA method on the occurrence of phlebitis caused by intravenous indwelling needle. Methods A total of 61 children who received intravenous indwell needle infusion before the implementation of FOCUS-PDCA method cycle in the Department of Pediatrics, Nanjing First Hospital from January to June 2021 were selected as the routine group, and the observation group included 61 children who received intravenous indwelling needle infusion after the implementation of FOCUS-PDCA method cycle from July to December 2021. Among them, the routine group adopted routine nursing management, and the observation group implemented FOCUS-PDCA method management on the basis of the routine group. The indwelling time of needle, catheter blockage, phlebitis incidence, causes of phlebitis, and family satisfaction of the children were compared between the two groups. Results The indwelling time of needle observation group was longer than that of routine group, and the tube plugging rate of indwelling needle was lower than that of routine group (P<0.05). The incidence of phlebitis in the observation group was lower than that in the routine group (P<0.05). The causes of phlebitis in the observation group were less than those in the conventional group (P<0.05). The satisfaction of family members in the observation group was better than that in the conventional group (P<0.05). Conclusion FOCUS-PDCA method has a good effect on reducing the incidence of phlebitis caused by intravenous indwelling needles in children, which can not only reduce the tube plugging rate of indwelling needles, but also improve the satisfaction of children’s families.
