Abstract:Professor Lin Guohua’s clinical experience in applying cotton moxibustion in the treatment of pruritic skin diseases is summarized and typical cases are introduced in this paper. Professor Lin often uses cotton moxibustion to treat skin diseases. He believes that the four main contradictions of “wind pathogen”, “fire stagnation”, “dampness and turbidity” and “blood stasis” run through the whole process of pruritus. The treatment is based on the principles of “internal treatment for internal and external treatment for external” in the Sincerely True Theories of Suwen, with the theory of “searching wind and dredging collaterals”, “fire stagnation requiring dissipation” and “removing blood stasis and generating new”. Therefore, Professor Lin skillfully applies cotton moxibustion therapy, combines with pricking-cupping, fire needle therapy, cotton moxibustion and other external therapy with traditional Chinese medicine characteristics, so as to further achieve the function of promoting yang and eliminating dampness, wind expelling, fire dispersing, dampness clearing, stasis removing, and itching stopping.
