Effects of the Levin conservation model applied to the care of patients with craniocerebral injury

[Abstract] Objective To investigate the effects of introducing Levine conservation model intervention in the care of patients with craniocerebral injury. Methods One hundred patients with craniocerebral injury admitted to the Sinopharm Gezhouba Central Hospital from June 2019 to June 2021 were selected and grouped by the random number table method. The conventional group (50 cases) was given conventional care and the intervention group (50 cases) was then given intervention based on the Levin conservation model. After two weeks of the intervention, the patients’ self-management ability, improvement in neurological function, and complications during hospitalization were compared. Results After the intervention, the disease, mood, life, rehabilitation exercise, and social and interpersonal management scores in the intervention group were higher than before the intervention, while those in the intervention group were higher than in the conventional group, with statistically significant differences (P ＜ 0.05). After the intervention, the modified Rankin scale and National Institutes of Health stroke scale scores in both groups were lower than before the intervention, while those in the intervention group were lower in the intervention group than in the conventional group, with statistically significant differences (P ＜ 0.05). The overall complication rate in the intervention group was lower than that in the conventional group, and the difference was statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion Care under the Levin conservation model for patients with craniocerebral injury improves patient self-management and neurological recovery outcomes and reduces complications.
